Vinh G. Nguyen is a first generation, Vietnamese-American theatre artist, educator, and arts administrator based in the San Francisco Bay Area. As a director, Vinh is eager to reinterpret the American Musical Theatre canon for a modern audience. He is especially interested in the creation of new works that spotlight the voices of people from marginalized communities. Vinh's recent directing credits includes: The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Next to Normal, Company, and Allegiance.
Vinh has performed with companies such as 42nd Street Moon, San Jose Stage, Berkeley Playhouse, Cabrillo Stage, and Bay Area Musicals. Some of his favorite performing credits include: Angel in Rent, Sammy in Allegiance, Prince Christopher in R&H's Cinderella, and The Cat in the Hat in Seussical. During his time in San Diego, Vinh worked with BD Wong and Wayne Baker in the world premiere of their new musical, Mr. Holland's Opus. He has performed in concerts with The Old Globe Theatre, San Diego Symphony, and sang back up for Kristin Chenoweth at the Music Box Theatre.
Vinh is a passionate advocate and consultant for the causes of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging (EDIB) and anti-racism in the theatre, having contributed EDIB efforts to local theatre companies. He is the Managing Artistic Director at Chopsticks Alley Art, a non-profit Southeast Asian arts organization based in San Jose, CA. Vinh holds an MFA in Musical Theatre from San Diego State University. He is a member of the Stage Directors & Choreographers Society (SDC) and the Musical Theatre Educators' Alliance (MTEA).
